Sea Shells, Sea Shells...
Fynn McGroder
The Miracle of Marine Molluscs
Welcome to my website! I'm Fynn, otherwise known as @heseesseashells, and I'm here to share with you the beauty of these underwater miracles!
The mollusk that inhabits the shell draws calcium from the seawater around it, as well as carbonate ions and various other proteins from the food it consumes.
How are shells made?
The mollusk then secretes these proteins to create a flexible, microscopic frame in the space where the shell will start to grow. When the framework is ready, the rest is filled in with Calcium Carbonate, which begins to solidify.
Once hardened, the shell gains its unique colours based on its species, environment, or diet. After the mollusk dies, the empty shell is washed ashore for us to find.
